
Dr. Duminda Wijeysundera is the Head of Science at the SPHERE at St. Michael’s Hospital, and a professor in both the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. He is a practicing Staff Anesthesiologist at St. Michael’s Hospital and holds the Endowed Chair in Translational Anesthesiology Research at St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto.
Duminda completed a MD at the University of British Columbia, postgraduate residency training in anesthesiology at the University of Toronto, and a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Care Research at the University of Toronto. He is an internationally renowned expert in perioperative medicine and co-leads the PINNACLE research program (@PinnaclePeriop) at St. Michael’s Hospital. Duminda has a major interest in approaches to better predict, prevent, and treat adverse sequalae following surgery, such as major complications, poor functional recovery, and disability. He has contributed to more than 300 peer-reviewed publications, while his research has been supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, PSI Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Canadian Anesthesia Research Foundation, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and the Ontario government.
